DIY Minimal Rope Bowls

· In: Lifestyle

These DIY Minimal Rope Bowls have been in heavy use as catch-all dishes by the door to contain our keys and sunglasses for the summerToday I want to share a project that is a bit different for me; DIY Minimal Rope Bowls! I don’t usually have minimal decor but I do love a good non-fussy simple DIY. These rope bowls have been in heavy use as catch-all dishes by the door to contain our keys and sunglasses for the summer.

A few weeks back I made another rope project, a Macrame Hammock Chair and since then I’ve been dying to use my leftover rope in clever ways. Catch-all dishes are kind of an obsession for me. I have way too many but I keep adding more because we’re messy people and well, dishes hide the mess. It’s like an optical illusion really (oh you’re not messy because everything has its own dish!). To make our rope bowls I used a sewing machine but you can easily use adhesive to glue the rope together instead.

Materials
+ Rope
+ Sewing machine, white thread

Directions
1. Optional: Hold the frayed ends of your rope over a candle to slightly heat it and prevent more fraying.
2. Set your sewing machine to a zigzag stitch. Coil the rope in a small circle to begin and then start sewing the rope together. You don’t need to glue the center together, just begin stitching about an inch from the center coil.
3. To create a bowl shape, after you have stitched a 5″ circle (or any size you like) hold the rope at about a 90 degree angle to stitch the side of the bowl. This will stitch the rope into a curved wall instead of a flat circle.
4. Continue until you get to the end of the rope. Now you should have a brand new bowl!

You can of course make a much larger bowl for bigger items but small bowls are quick and easy to make. They’re great for organizing seasonal items that can clutter up your home or just little items that I’m always looking for like bobby pins or a pack of gum. It’s a little bonus that our minimal rope bowls are quite simple and clean-looking in white to keep things feeling fresh.
